Useful Links

I am happy to share the links I regularly use in my work. Saving this page to your browser favourites is a small step that can save a lot of time. Please feel free to share this page with others who may find them useful.

Official website for Australian Immigration and Citizenship
Departmental website on Immigration portfolio. General website for the Department of Home Affairs is here.

Google
When looking for information about a specific visa subclass, the most effective approach is to search using the visa number (for example, “visa 190”, “visa 482”, or “visa 804”). The Department of Home Affairs page for that subclass will usually appear first and contains most of the core information.

ImmiAccount
ImmiAccount is the Home Affairs’ portal for visa, citizenship and some other applications. Note that when you create a new account, in some instances it may take a few days for it to become operational.

LEGENDcom
LEGENDcom is a paid database of migration and citizenship legislation and policy. It can be worthwhile even for a single application, as it gives direct access to the source material used in decision-making. Thе downsides are that it is not simple to navigate and the cost (around $800 a year).

Schedule 2 (to Migration Regulations 1994)
This is main legislation for Provisions with respect to the grant of Subclasses of visas. Look for your visa subclass by using CTRL+F and typing in your visa subclass. This is very technical and you will need to decipher too many definitions, but you may be curious. If you wish to check the regulations, schedules and policy, you may need LEGENDcom.

Points Test
Points test calculator. Note that the page still shows now-abandoned visa subclass 188 and 489.

English Language Requirements
Functional English
Vocational English
Competent English
Proficient English
Superior English
You will note that test scores and acceptable tests change from time to time; so keep checking these pages until you have actually applied for a visa.

Offices
You will be surprised how difficult to find this page if you don’t know the design of the Immigration website or save this link. You will also need to type in a country name at the bottom of this page to find the panel doctors and how to apply for a police certificate in the country, and how to complete biometrics.

Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
This is an interactive page showing all occupations, links to ANZSCO for definition of occupations, visas available for an occupation and skills assessment authority for the occupation. Because this is an interactive list, you will need to type in your occupation exactly as it appears in this list.

Legislative Instruments for SOL
This page contains links to the lists of occupation in PDF format which are often easier to go through than in the interactive form. They are useful to find the “neighbouring occupations” and for “strategizing”.

Regional Occupation Lists
ACT QLD NSW NT VIC TAS SA WA
A must to explore regional nominated visa options. Having these links will save you time in getting to the core of your pathway research. For the main pages of the regional immigration authorities, click Home when on the below pages.
While some states/regions say that all occupations can register, you need to assess your real chances before starting an expensive process of skills assessment.

Skills Assessing Authorities
VETASSESS
Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)
Australian Computer Society
Engineers Australia
These are Skills Assessing Authorities for the most often used occupations, and the links are for their document checklists for the most often used programs.
